In our younger years, we create a vision of what we believe our life will look like, a Life Vision. You may have dreamt of career success, fulfilling relationships, the perfect spouse with the perfect kiddo’s, vibrant health, or leaving your hometown and settling into something new. Or maybe your dream was to have Jon Bon Jovi recognize you at his concert where he invites you on stage to sing Bed of Roses – falls in love and you both live happily ever after in a condo in New Jersey. As 80’s kids, we knew how to dream big!
However, as the years have passed, some or none of the Life Visions you created for yourself have come true. When we were younger it felt like we had so much time ahead of us to create the life we wanted. Then suddenly, you recognize that you are at an age where the thought of mortality is more of a reality than dreams. This disparity can lead to frustration, sadness, and depression. But it doesn’t have to be that way. What you need is a shift in mindset. A new belief about what’s possible. A new focus towards making your life how you want it, as opposed to focusing on the past.

Gain Clarity
Is there any part of your past life vision that is still attainable? Before you answer “No” – give yourself a chance to really think about this question. Let your inhibitions go. Just for a moment, put yourself back into a dreaming state where anything is possible. Do not allow your subconscious mind to sabotage this thought process with all the reasons why you can’t have it. We are just dreaming here so…relax…breathe and have some fun with it.
Which part of your Life Vision is still possible?
- Hypothetically, if you were to make that a reality – what would that mean to you?
- What would life be like?
- How would you feel?
- Who else would be positively affected?
- How would this change your current reality for the better?
- (Stay in that dreaming state) What would be the first step you would take towards making this a reality?
- What are the challenges you would have to overcome to make this a reality?
- What are 3 possible solutions to those challenges?
- What would you need to believe about yourself to make it a reality?
- What resources or support do I need?
Now that you have allowed yourself to dream and feel what it would be like to attain a part (or all) of your past Life Vision – tap into the younger version of yourself in your heart and mind. She’s still there. She’s never left you. You know she is yearning to come out again! The reality is – you still have time! Take Question #6 (What’s the first step) and create a plan.
My go-to mantra when I am feeling self-doubt is “Let’s just see how far I can go”.
Are you willing to see how far you can go with this new Life Vision? What do you have to lose? Time is passing by anyway. Might as well do something new and fun with it!
